So what happened here is that Hannibal either checked a box that said he’d had sex with another man fairly recently or else (probably more likely) this homophobic doctor decided that he’d clocked Hannibal as Queer, so this became a not very subtle game of “passive agressively accusing Hannibal of lying about not having HIV/AIDES.”
And that’s why he is soup now.
Sometimes it is extra hard to argue with Hannibal’s reasoning…

reblogging this post again because when i watched this scene it made no sense because i FORGOT that Hannibal ought to EASILY be clocked as queer, not to mention not being certain at the time that he ever had sex with anyone at all, so the idea of him ticking that box didnt occur to me.
((also worth mentioning that at my doctors office there is a box for ‘what gender identity best suits you’ and ‘what sexual orientation listed best suits you’ so he might literally have said he hadnt had sex in the last few years but that he was bisexual, and hannibal is CLEARLY old enough to have been sexually active in the 80s))
Also he could be assuming ANY std, not just HIV/AIDS (since i THINK its illegal to lie about hiv/aids?), with just a general assholeish assumption that bisexual/gay/gendernonconforming people are promiscuous
Hell I didn’t understand this doctor’s behavior until now! This makes so much sense! I definitely think he’s insinuating HIV because you can be HIV positive without being actually affected by AIDS. “A disease is an in infection, but an infection isn’t always a disease”- This line seems perfectly suited for HIV, so the reason he’s being so rudely intrusive is probably Hannibal’s sex history and/or orientation. We know the old nasty prejudice about gay men and AIDS, I’m actually angry 😂 he deserves to be food.
